Brad Yates and Tim Mobley started Manor Homes
in 1989. The two saw an opportunity to develop a niche in central
Ohio for soft, open contemporary homes that were distinctly different
from the more formal homes that they saw being built. Yates and
Mobley knew they had chosen the right approach when clients began
snapping up their products.
Originally from Grand Blanc, Michigan, Yates grew
up knowing he wanted to work in construction. In high school he
worked for an uncle in the plumbing business, and in college he
worked construction-related jobs. After graduating from Michigan
State with a degree in building construction, he took a job with
Homewood and moved to Columbus. Ten years after starting at Homewood,
Yates decided to act on a long-held dream, and he and Mobley started
their own home building business.
Today, Manor Homes has grown so much that in 2002,
the company moved from their longtime headquarters in northwest
columbus to
a new office park that Manor Homes developed themselves on the
north side of Powell. The 39,000 square foot office park is
located at 15 Clairedan Drive off Liberty Road. The roomier new
office space will give the company even more opportunity for growth.
Building strong relationships is central to Manor
Homes' success. By carefully choosing their employees and subcontractors,
Manor Homes has maintained both efficiency and quality. At Manor
Homes, consistency and continuity are prized. The company has very
low turnover in employees and subcontractors. Manor Homes has a
core group of subcontractors that have come to view Manor Homes
as their company. Communication is important not just between Manor
Homes and their personnel, but between the company and their clients,
making sure that they understand and meet expectations.
